A Rapid yielding mine roof support system was developed by MMSÂ in conjunction with the University of Pretoria. The roof support system is able to survive a seismic bump in the mine, with a roof displacement of 200mm, without the system failing to provide continued support. Each unit is made up of a pair of “walking” legs, with one being able to be supported by the other while moving forward. This means, that at all times, the miners have roof support and can work in safety even when advancing the roof support structure closer to the stop face. |
